Roger, I did read years ago about some fascinating work using explosives to kill E.coli in beef. they apparently wrapped the beef in a serious amount of waterproof plastic sheeting, submersed the side of beef in water and then set of a very small explosive charge. In some very magic scientific way, the E.coli was gone. I guess its better than ammonia hydroxide? Could be a great job for retired BD personnel….Really!
