Afghan Desert

Worrying statistics from Afghanistan. In the first six months of the year 24,000 soldiers deserted.  5000 of these (3% of the Army) deserted in June alone.  One of the reasons?  The military are prohibited by a law enacted by President Karzai from punishing those who desert. I kid you not.  Another reason? Poor leadership and corrupt commanders. No surprise there.
